2005 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New models expand superb new lineup. introductionford f-150 has been the best-selling full-size pickup for 27 consecutive years, and it's the most important, most profitable vehicle ford makes. Last year ford threw away the old formula and created a new f-150 from the ground up. At the top is a new king ranch model lavishly outfitted in castano leather. At the bottom is a new v6 model available with an automatic or manual transmission. An inexpensive work truck model has been added as well. In between is the industry's widest variety of body configurations: three cab styles, three bed lengths, two bed styles, and a choice of v8 engines. The f-150 comes equipped with dual frontal airbags designed to deploy according to the severity of the crash and who or what is occupying the seat. The xl, stx, xlt, fx4, lariat, and king ranch each boast their own interior style and features. Engines, suspensions and cab configurations are designed to meet specific needs. Xl is readily identifiable by its black grille and fascia and 17-inch steel wheels, though it comes with chrome bumpers. Xl is available in regular cab or supercab (extended cab) styles. An f-150 xl 4. 2-liter v8 regular cab 2wd automatic short wheelbase retails for $21,455, but a v6 manual will lower that price to $19,610; a long-wheelbase 4x4 v8 automatic supercab is priced at $29,690. (manufacturer's suggested retail prices are subject to change and do not include the destination charge of $795.)  stx is sportier than the xl, with a body-colored grille-surround for the black bar grille, and 17-inch cast aluminum wheels. Stx comes in styleside (flat) and flareside (fendered) body styles, in regular cab or supercab, with either a 6. 5-foot or a 5. 5-foot cargo box. An audiophile sound system with subwoofer and six-disc cd changer is optional. Stx starts at $22,285.  xlt is the most popular model, nicer and better-equipped than xl though not as luxurious as lariat. It comes with a honeycomb grille that sets it apart from the other models. Xlt comes in regular cab, supercab or supercrew, with a choice of 5. 5-, 6. 5-, or 8-foot bed lengths, and styleside or flareside body styles. A premium cloth interior is standard on the bench seats or optional captain's chairs. The xlt instrument panel gets more flash than either the xl or stx dash. Supercab, as well as supercrew versions, get power windows for the rear doors. The xlt also features an overhead rail console system that the owner can tailor to his or her needs. Fog lamps come standard on 4x4 xlts. An xlt supercrew 4x4 5. 4-liter v8 automatic retails for $35,275.  fx4 is a special off-road model. The interior features chrome trim and markings, and a floor shifter. Fx4 is available in regular cab, supercab, and supercrew body styles, with either 5. 5-foot styleside or 6. 5-foot flareside or styleside bed designs (no 8-foot bed). The standard engine is the 5. 4-liter v8. The fx4 has its own instrument package as do the rest of the models, with carbon mesh accents on the metallic dashboard. Captain's chairs in cloth or leather are optional, and 18-inch cast aluminum wheels are standard. An f-150 fx4 supercrew retails for $34,605.  lariat is the luxury model. It has its own grille design and comes standard with 18-inch wheels. Lariat features black-on-cream instruments, lots of wood trim and brushed metal, a multi-function steering wheel, and a shiny floor shifter mounted in a floor console. A power 40/20/40 split bench seat with seat memory is standard, along with power-adjustable floor pedals, an in-dash message center, and climate control. Heated power leather captain's chairs are optional. Lariat 2wd models are available in all three body styles, but 4x4 versions are only available with styleside fenders. An f-150 lariat supercrew 4x4 starts at $35,875.  king ranch features rich castano leather designed to capture the spirit of the historic texas cattle ranch. It comes as a supercrew distinguished by with a color-coordinated grille, arizona beige running boards, and other special trim. Inside are power-adjustable and heated captain's chairs in front, a 60/40 split bench seat in back, and unique interior tri. walkaroundredesigned for 2004, the ford f-150 looks much more manly than the previous-generation models. Its tall shoulders, bold front end and crisp lines give it a more utilitarian look that leaves no doubt that this is a serious truck. It's at least as stylish as the much-heralded dodge ram, but is totally different. In fact, the f-150 has a unique look, no small feat when designing within the hard parameters imposed by a pickup. In short, we think the new f-150 is a great-looking truck.  the f-150 has picked up styling cues from the handsome super duty pickups, including the sharp cut in the forward part of the door, allowing a clear view of the massive outside mirrors. A high beltline gives the truck visual strength and makes occupants feel more secure. The roofline is somewhat reminiscent of chopped-top custom street trucks.  the whole nose is shaped more squarely than the previous generation, which featured more feminine, more car-like curves. The grilles are larger and bolder. The front fascia wraps around to the fenders for a precise, sophisticated appearance. The bodyside and cargo box sheet metal is chiseled, though it looks more slab-sided at the same time, a theme that carries through the tailgate, giving the f-150 an upscale, utilitarian look that's very appealing.  the different trim levels are quite distinctive. Just one example: xlt and lariat have a honeycomb grille (black on xlt, brushed-nickel on lariat), while xl, stx, fx4, and king ranch use a bar-style grille.  practical considerations are a big part of the design, and some of this can be easily seen. Every bed, no matter which length or style, is two inches taller than previous-generation's beds to give more margin when hauling larger cargoes. The supercab (extended cab) doors are larger than the vestigial doors on the standard cab. At the other end of the spectrum is the king ranch, which evokes images of montana and cowboys. Lariat comes with every known amenity.  we found the xlt's front bench seats attractive, but they were flat and lacked support. The front bench is split three ways. They also looked great, trimmed in black leather with light gray stitching. Adjusting the power seats may be a little awkward for drivers with big arms because the clearance between the door armrest and the seat is a little tight; rake adjustment on the power driver's seat is manual, and raking it forward can be a bit awkward. The center console between the captain's chairs is deep and holds a lot of stuff and features a pair of big, solid cup holders. The floor shifter for the automatic works very well.  the radio and hvac controls are plain but straightforward and easy to operate. Giant mirrors afford an excellent view rearward. 2003 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All the pickup basics and a harley-davidson edition to boot. introductionquieter and more carlike than ever, the ford f-150 continues to be the light-duty pickup truck by which all others are measured. The world's best-selling truck continues to evolve into a sedan with a handy bed attached.  all 2003 models get a new noise control package, 75 improvements in all, according to ford, for a 10-percent quieter ride. Audio system choices now include a cassette/cd player and an in-dash six-cd changer. All 2003 f-150s now have the latch (lower anchors and tethers for children) systems as standard equipment.  a new heritage edition f-150 commemorates 100 years of ford motor company history. An f-150 stx edition is newly available on regular cab and supercab xl and xlt. King ranch models get chrome tubular running boards, a six-disc in-dash cd changer and woodgrain bezels.  . lineupthere is something for everybody at ford's f-150 store; they've made sure of that. Three engines are available: standard engine for the base xl is a 4. 2-liter v6 that makes 202 horsepower. A 4. 6-liter v8 rated at 231 horsepower is optional in xl models and xlt, standard in all others. No light-duty diesel engine is available for f-150 models. The three cab styles are offered in xl, xlt, and lariat trim levels; supercabs and supercrews can also be had as king ranch models, with leather captain's chairs, a premium audio system, and unique badging.  supercrew features rear seats that can quickly be converted into covered cargo space. Overall length is kept reasonable by using an ultra-short bed that measures just 5-1/2 feet. The bed is a compromise, but it relieves the driver of the daily burden of maneuvering a pickup into tight urban or country spaces. The lariat supercrew is equipped like a luxury sport-utility, with leather upholstery, power-adjustable pedals and an optional moonroof and rear-seat entertainment system.  air conditioning is standard equipment on almost all f-150s and electronic automatic temperature control is now standard on lariat, king ranch and supercrew models. Power-adjustable pedals are standard on all models for 2003. Antilock brakes (abs) are standard throughout the f-150 line, and remote keyless entry is standard on xlts.  the f-150 model matrix is huge, and includes some specialty models. The high-performance svt lightning packs a supercharged 5. 4-liter v8 rated at 380 horsepower and 450 foot-pounds of torque. Special svt wheels, tires, and suspension are calibrated more for handling than for hauling. This limited-production street rod is available only as a 2wd regular cab on the 120-inch short wheelbase.  also available for 2003 is a new ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew. It features a supercharged 5. 4-liter triton v8 engine with 345 horsepower and 425 foot-pounds of torque. It's available in black or optional two-tone paint, black over silver with a high cutline and orange details. Body-color bumpers, a new front end with fog lamps, a chrome grille and chrome tie-down hooks, and clear-lens headlamps are standard, as are 20x9-inch chromed aluminum wheels with the harley logo. The h-d pickup is lowered one inch, with a dual inlet-dual outlet muffler that ends in chrome 3 1? 2-inch slash-cut exhaust tips. A special 100th anniversary nameplate commemorates the centennial of ford and harley next year.  . walkaroundthe f-150 is a stylish truck, one that pays more serious attention to aerodynamics than either the dodge or gm pickups. It's rounder, friendlier and looks more like a car. That may be part of the reason it outsells all other pickup trucks by a considerable margin. In two years, the whole f-150 design will change to something far more radical and big-truck-like, putting an end to the aero truck phase at ford design, but for now, the f-150 is still a looker, loaded with features.  the f-150's aerodynamic hood drops away very rapidly from the base of the windshield, so it's easier to see what's immediately in front of the truck, handy for maneuvering off-road, for parking, and when navigating in the city. Its fenders seem to make small rural roads smaller. In tight quarters, this feels like a big truck.  . interiorthe f-150 takes its interior design cues from the company's passenger cars. The designers simply adapted these cues to the pickup's larger cab. The curves, surfaces, textures, instrumentation and graphics inside the f-150 are more adventurous, more modern, and in some ways better executed than the gm and dodge, big and bold but not outsized for such a big vehicle.  the mid-range f-150 xlt has dual air bags with a passenger-side deactivation switch. They offer a lot of interior space for the money. The xlt's cloth seats recline, and a lumbar support on the driver's side provides even more driving comfort.  all ford pickups share another trait: a relatively high ride height, even on 2x4 models. Getting into and out of the rear seats was easy. The rear seats are comfortable and offer good legroom, allowing passengers to slide their feet under the front seats. Adults should be able to ride back there for longer trips. It's also a nice, comfortable place to change into and out of almost any kind of recreational gear. And the f-150 aftermarket is a billion-dollar business. It's a great place to put cargo or pets. Small storage compartments behind the front seats add utility. Good, solid brakes, but not impressive in terms of sheer power.  although the optional 4. 6-liter v8 engine is rated 231 horsepower and 293 foot–pounds of torque, we don't think it's as good a performer in many respects as the small v8 engines from gm and dodge, most of which are larger in displacement. It's a good, solid engine, with millions of examples on the road, and it sounds good at full throttle, but we find it a little anemic for all-around street use, and we would certainly find it wanting if we had to haul anything heavy or tow a trailer up a mountain road. 2006 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. It's also stylish, among the best-looking in a group of handsome full-size pickups for the 2006 model year.  properly equipped, an f-150 can tow 9,900 pounds or haul more than 3,000 pounds in the bed. The f-150 is comfortable as well, with a quiet and refined ride and comfortable interiors that show attention to detail. Handling is excellent for a pickup.  the f-150 earned a five-star safety rating from the government (nhtsa) in frontal crash testing and was named a 'best pick' in offset-crash rating from the insurance institute for highway safety. F-150 comes equipped with dual frontal airbags designed to deploy according to the severity of the crash and who or what is occupying the seat. Ford has not significantly changed the f-150 since then except to expand the lineup every year with new trim levels, variations, and specialty models.  for 2006, supercrew (crew cab) models will be available with a longer, 6. 5-foot bed; as well as the standard 5. 5-foot short bed. A limited-production harley-davidson edition, previously offered on super duty models, is now available as an f-150 supercab (extended cab). The xl, stx, xlt, fx4, lariat, and king ranch each boast their own interior style and features. Engines, suspensions and cab configurations are designed to meet specific needs. Wheelbases as long as 163. 0 inches (e. G., a supercab with the 8-foot long bed) are available.  three engines are offered: a 4. 2-liter v6, a 4. 6-liter v8, and a 5. 4-liter v8. In the models most consumers will buy, the 4. 6-liter v8 is standard. Xl is readily identifiable by its black grille and fascia, painted silver bumpers and 17-inch steel wheels. Regular cab and supercab (extended cab) styles are available, and the latter comes with air conditioning (an $850 option on regular cabs). An f-150 xl regular cab 2wd short wheelbase model with a 4. 6-liter v8 and automatic retails for $20,635, or $18,790 with a v6 and manual gearbox; a supercab long-wheelbase 4wd with a v8 and automatic retails for $27,275. Chrome bumpers and cloth seats are optional.  stx is sportier than the xl, with body-color bumpers and body-color trim for the black grille, and 17-inch cast aluminum wheels. Cloth seats, a cd player, and air conditioning come standard. Stx comes in styleside and flareside body styles, in regular cab or supercab, with either a 6. 5-foot or a 5. 5-foot cargo box. An audiophile sound system with subwoofer and six-disc cd changer is optional. An stx 2wd flareside retails for $23,030.  xlt is the most popular model, nicer and better-equipped than xl. It comes with chrome bumpers and a honeycomb grille that sets it apart from the other models. Carpeting is standard, as is a premium cloth upholstery on the standard bench seats or optional captain's chairs. The xlt instrument panel gets more flash than either the xl or stx dash; and power windows, mirrors and locks with remote keyless entry are standard. The xlt features an overhead rail console system that the owner can tailor to his or her needs. Fog lamps come standard on 4wd xlts. An xlt supercrew 4wd 5. 4-liter v8 automatic retails for $34,055.  fx4 is a special off-road model. The interior features a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a floor shifter, and chrome accents; while the exterior is distinguished by a unique grille, 18-inch cast aluminum wheels, and body-color or dark shadow gray bumpers, depending on paint choice. Fx4 is available in regular cab, supercab, and supercrew body styles, but the long (8-foot) bed is not available. The standard engine is the 5. 4-liter v8. The fx4 has its own instrument package with carbon mesh accents on the metallic dashboard. Captain's chairs in cloth or leather are optional. An f-150 fx4 supercrew 4wd retails for $35,495.  lariat is the luxury model, distinguished visually by a unique grille design (chrome housing around arizona beige insert) and bright-finish 18-inch aluminum wheels. Bumpers are chrome or arizona beige. Lariat features black-on-cream instruments, lots of wood trim and brushed metal, a multi-function steering wheel, and a shiny floor shifter mounted in a floor console. A power-adjustable and leather-trimmed 40/20/40 split bench seat with seat memory is standard, along with power-adjustab. walkaroundin the late 1990s, f-150 went aerodynamically curvy, and although it remained number one in sales, not everyone liked the look. So for 2004, ford returned the f-150 to its square-shouldered roots, with a more utilitarian look that continues essentially unchanged for 2006.  it's a functional look, but in its own way it's at least as stylish as the much-heralded dodge ram. In fact, the f-150 has a unique image, no small feat when designing within the hard parameters imposed by a pickup. It's at once crisp, bold, and sturdy. In short, we think the f-150 is a great-looking truck.  the f-150 shares styling cues with ford's handsome super duty pickups, including the sharp downward drop in the forward part of the door windows, allowing a clear view of the massive outside mirrors. A high beltline gives the truck visual strength and makes occupants feel more secure.  the whole nose is square in concept, with a large, bold, big-rig grille opening. Yet the front fascia wraps around to the fenders for a precise, sophisticated appearance. The bodyside and cargo box sheet metal is chiseled, though it looks slab-sided at the same time, a theme that carries through to the tailgate. F-150 is both upscale and utilitarian, a look that's very appealing.  the different trim levels are quite distinctive. Just one example: xlt and lariat have a honeycomb grille (black on xlt, arizona beige on lariat), while xl, stx, fx4, and king ranch wear a bar-style grille.  practical considerations are a big part of the design, and some of this can be easily seen. Every bed, no matter which length or style, is more than 22 inches deep, for a generous margin when hauling larger cargoes. The basic xl is surprisingly nice. At the other end of the spectrum is the king ranch, which evokes images of texas and cowboys. We love the king ranch, but it's not for everyone.  we found the xlt's front bench seats attractive, but they are flat and lack support. The front bench is split three ways. The center section flips down to reveal a center console with storage and cup holders. They also looked great, trimmed in black leather with light gray stitching. Adjusting the power seats may be a little awkward for drivers with big arms, however, because the clearance between the door armrest and the seat is a little tight. Rake adjustment on the power driver's seat is manual, and raking it forward can be a bit awkward. The center console between the captain's chairs is deep, holds a lot of stuff, and features a pair of big, solid cup holders. The floor shifter for the automatic transmission works very well.  radio and hvac (heater) controls are plain but straightforward and easy to operate. Lariat comes with every known. 2008 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. With the segment's only rear-hinged side access doors, the regular cab gives excellent recline space and an easy reach to everything dropped behind the seat. At the other end of the scale, premium models include two-tone leather seats, polished 22-inch wheels and other touches: within those extremes lies something for everyone.  2008 marks the first availability of an xl-grade supercrew with 5. 5- or 6. 5-foot bed: maximum people space with a work truck ethic. Detail changes for 2008 run the gamut from functional to decorative, the latter a wheels and stripes package for stx models, the former a standard tachometer for xl and stx with manual transmission, tire pressure monitors on the heavy-duty package, plus the availability of a cargo management system, remote start, telescoping towing mirrors, and a rearview camera (that does not require purchase of a navigation system).  with one of the deepest beds in the half-ton pickup segment, the f-150 has generous cargo volume out back and a maximum payload rating of 3,050 pounds. A foose edition f-150 designed by hot-rod master chip foose will be available as a late-2008 model. The base f-150 xl 17,345) is a short, regular cab two-wheel drive. Wheels are steel, the grille is black and bumpers painted, vinyl covers the floor and seats, and the audio is am/fm. However, it does have intermittent wipers, map lights, a 40/20/40 split bench front seat with driver lumbar adjustment, and on supercabs 23,440) air conditioning. Since it frequently adds other upgrades and a larger engine, 4wd adds almost $6,000 (and a v8) to the most basic example and $3,000 to the lowest-priced supercab.  stx models up the ante without going broke, with body-color front and rear bumpers and grille trim, air conditioning, cd player, and cloth upholstery. A 4x2 regular cab short bed starts at $21,050 and a 4x4 supercab flareside goes for $29,045; there is no stx supercrew.  central to the lineup, and sales, is the xlt. To an stx it adds chrome bumpers, black honeycomb grille, remote keyless entry, power mirrors/locks/windows, carpeting, auto headlamps, tinted windows, and better fabric for the 40/20/40 seat. Hefty rubber mats protect the carpet; other upgrades include a leather-wrapped wheel, unique instrument display, and sport cloth upholstery with driver and passenger lumbar support. Monotone paint includes the bumpers (gray with tow-tone paint), flares cover 18-inch aluminum wheels, and the door gets keypad entry. On regular cabs 24,105-30,645) the fx4 is $5,750 over the fx2 and there's no long-wheelbase fx4; on supercab and supercrew 28,700-35,445), the 4wd version is a $3,295 premium.  the lariat label is reserved for more luxurious, car-like interiors, and does not include regular cab or flareside models; retail prices range from $29,895-$35,595. Fancy bits include 18-inch aluminum wheels, power heated mirrors with signal repeaters, climate control, leather-trimmed seats and steering wheel, powered driver's seat, trip computer, light-faced gauges, and chrome and arizona beige trim.  for 2008, ford will build 5,000 lariat limited f-150s, replete with serial-number plates, spun-metal instrument cluster trim, two-tone leather cabin, color-matched grille and bumpers, and three-dimensional chrome bed side badging. Limited models are offered only as 139-inch wheelbase supercrews in two- 35,160) or all-wheel drive 38,160).  top tier among regular production models is the king ranch, with castano leather modeled after the saddles that roamed the texas ranch. Exterior trim is similar to lariats, with color-matching components and arizona beige accents. At this level, items such as heated power seats and power-folding mirrors are standard. And the 2008 ford f-150 shows the evolution of 70 years of function. Angular means easy to clean, easy to park and gives maximum inside volume for outside space. The f-150 is easily recognized in any trim level by the circular front lights within a rectangular housing, stepped front window ledge, opening rear doors on the regular cab, and the tall bed. For 2008, extendable dual-element towing mirrors bring the f-150 in line with the bigger super duty pickups, as well as the ram, titan, and tundra. Any cosmetic sacrifice is well worth the extra visibility with a trailer behind.  pillars between the doors may yield a blind spot for those who sit more rearward and everyone should appreciate the windshield pillar designed to help preserve forward vision. The flareside really is more stylish than the styleside bed, that which is essentially a box with some character lines in the sheetmetal, and more space within. The chrome harley badges are a bit much for some of us, but it drew many admiring looks. interiorford has all bases covered inside the f-150, with plenty of patterns, textures and finishes, including at least three different gauges clusters, and the choice of a 40/20/40 split-bench front seat or captain's chairs in many models. Captain's chairs on fx and lariat models, especially with power adjustment and the optional adjustable pedals, provide good driver positioning for virtually everyone. Finding it may take some time because the backrest angle adjustment is manual and the power controls are on the side of the seat with the door very close.

2007 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smooth ride, sharp handling, serious capability. introductionthe ford f-150 comes in a broad range of models, yet they all seem to have nicely balanced suspensions that make them enjoyable to drive and well-designed, comfortable cabs.  they offer a quiet and refined ride over dirt roads, rough pavement and freeway slabs. Yet they also offer controlled handling, with a minimum of body roll in corners. The steering is responsive for cornering and these trucks track like a laser beam on the highway. Brakes are smooth and responsive. The big 5. 4-liter v8 is smooth and quiet, and delivers quick acceleration. It's rated at 300 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque and 15/19 mpg city/highway. The 4. 6-liter v8 and 4. 2-liter v6 engines perform well, also.  the f-150 comes in six distinct variants to meet the different needs of a wide range of owners. Within those variants are three cab choices, three bed lengths, three bed styles, and a choice of powertrains. Ford claims more than 60 possible variations. The f-150 is known for its toughness, strength, and cargo capacity, while offering interior design and comfort. Its amenities show attention to detail.  the base xl is surprisingly nice inside. The fx4's optional captain's chairs are comfortable. The lariat is classy and nicely equipped, with every known amenity. The king ranch has a western feel that's very inviting. The supercrew features a back seat that's roomy and comfortable for adults. Since then, the model lineup has expanded with new trim levels, variations, and specialty models. The 2007 models feature more than a dozen subtle improvements inside and out. Among them:  seat comfort has been enhanced for 2007. A tire-pressure monitoring system now comes standard. Lariat and xlt models get new grilles for 2007. A 5. 4-liter e85 flexible fuel v8 is available, and power for the 4. 6-liter v8 is increased for 2007. A new dvd navigation system and sirius satellite radio are available, and an auxiliary audio input jack is now standard on most models. Power folding mirrors are now available on 2007 fx4 and lariat models, a useful feature for parking in tight quarters.  towing and hauling capacities have been increased for 2007, and ford claims the f-150 is the most capable truck in its class. Properly equipped, a 2007 ford f-150 can tow 10,500 pounds or haul more than 3,050 pounds in the bed. lineupthe 2007 ford f-150 is available in six distinct trim levels: xl, stx, xlt, fx2/fx4, lariat, and king ranch. Each boasts its own interior style and features. Engines, suspensions and cab configurations are designed to meet specific needs.  engines include a 4. 2-liter v6, a 4. 6-liter v8, and a 5. 4-liter v8. The 4. 6-liter v8 comes standard in the popular models. The flexible fuel version of the 5. 4-liter v8 can run on e85 ethanol.  the xl 18,220) is the budget-priced f-150 with a work-truck interior: vinyl-covered 40/20/40 bench seats with manually adjustable lumbar support for the driver, black vinyl floor covering, and an all-plastic dashboard housing a basic am/fm radio. A tire-pressure monitor comes standard for 2007. Xl is readily identifiable by its black grille and fascia, painted silver bumpers and 17-inch steel wheels. Regular cab and supercab (extended cab) styles are available, and the latter comes with air conditioning. Popular models include the f-150 xl regular cab 2wd short wheelbase model with a 4. 6-liter v8 and automatic 20,635) and the v6 and manual gearbox 18,790); a supercab long-wheelbase 4wd with a v8 and automatic is also available 27,275). Chrome bumpers and cloth seats are optional.  the stx 22,765) is sportier than the xl, with body-color bumpers and body-color trim for its black grille, and 17-inch cast aluminum wheels. Cloth seats, air conditioning, and a cd player with an auxiliary audio input jack come standard. Stx comes in styleside and flareside body styles, in regular cab or supercab, with either a 6. 5-foot or a 5. 5-foot cargo box. An audiophile sound system with subwoofer and six-disc cd changer is optional.  the xlt 25,065) is the most popular model, nicer and better-equipped than xl or stx. It comes with chrome bumpers and a chrome-trimmed black honeycomb grille that set it apart from the other models. Carpeting is standard, as is premium cloth upholstery on the standard bench seats or optional captain's chairs. The xlt instrument panel gets more flash than either the xl or stx dash; and power windows, mirrors and locks with remote keyless entry are standard. The xlt features an overhead rail console system that the owner can tailor to his or her needs. Fog lamps come standard on 4wd xlts.  the fx4 30,515) is a special off-road model. The interior features a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a floor shifter, chrome accents, and black rubber off-road floor mats; while the exterior is distinguished by a unique bar-style grille, wheel-lip moldings highlighting 18-inch cast aluminum wheels, and body-color or dark shadow gray bumpers, depending on paint choice. Fx4 is available in regular cab, supercab, and supercrew body styles, but the long (8-foot) bed is not available. The standard engine is the 5. 4-liter v8. The fx4 has its own instrument package with carbon mesh accents on the metallic dashboard. Captain's chairs in cloth or leather are optional, and the standard bench seat adds manually adjustable lumbar support for the passenger. Among the models is the f-150 fx4 supercrew 4wd 35,495).  the new fx2 is a 2wd model that comes in supercab 28,570) or super crew 30,970) versions with a styleside box. It includes a dark accent billet-style grille insert with body color grille surround, unique 18-inch aluminum wheels, available 20-inch aluminum wheels, a chrome exhaust tip, fog lamps, unique captain's chairs with center console and floor-mounted shifter, and a body color front bumper, rear bumper, door and tailgate handles.  the lariat is the luxury model, di. walkaroundin the late 1990s, f-150 went aerodynamically curvy, and although it remained number one in sales, not everyone liked the look. So for 2004, ford returned the f-150 to its square-shouldered roots, with a more utilitarian look that continues essentially unchanged for 2007.  it's a functional look, but in its own way it's at least as stylish as the much-heralded dodge ram. A high beltline gives the truck visual strength and makes occupants feel more secure.  the nose is square in concept, with a large, bold, big-rig grille opening. Just one example: xlt and lariat have a honeycomb grille (black on xlt, arizona beige on lariat), while xl, stx, fx4, and king ranch wear bar-style grilles.  practical considerations are a big part of the design, and some of this can be easily seen. Every bed, no matter which length or style, is more than 22 inches deep, for a generous margin when hauling larger cargoes. The basic xl is surprisingly nice. At the other end of the spectrum is the king ranch, which has a western feel that's very inviting. We love the king ranch, but it's not for everyone.  in recent years we've found the f-150's front bench seats flat and unsupportive. The seats have been improved for 2007 models, however, and ford says they provide more support and comfort. The front bench is still split three ways: the center section flips down to reveal a console with storage and cup holders. The big difference in the back seats between supercrew and supercab models is rear legroom: 39. 0 inches for supercrew, 32. 7 inches for supercab. 1998 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The trendiest of the trucks. introductionford's f-series pickups are proof that barnyard workhorse trucks will never be their squared-off selves again. Wheelbase lengths of 119. 9 in., 138. 5 in. Wheelbase, which means all f-250s are either extended cabs or long cargo beds. But, by and large, there ought to be something here for just about anybody. The xlt trim includes several items that might otherwise be options. The total for this high-line truck came to $31,450. In smoothness, it embarrasses every other full-size truck engine on the market. The power delivery is crisp and responsive, and to good low-end power it adds excellent mid-range and higher-speed power to make short work of real-world demands such as quick acceleration to freeway speeds. It replaces the ancient twin i-beam, and we're thankful. With this suspension, the ride is far better, handling is superior, steering feel is drastically improved and directional stability, such as when traveling at highway speeds in a severe crosswind, is immensely enhanced. We would expect that tire wear would also be better, as this was one of the many weak points of the twin i-beam. With the 40/60 split-bench front seat, driver and passenger have individually reclining backrests. What can serve as the center backrest is also a folding armrest; when folded forward, it provides a large cupholder and capacious bin. Inside this storage bin are places for coins, cassette tapes and so forth, and a divider which, when removed, allows space for an 8 1/2 x 11 tablet. There are a pair of cupholders in the instrument panel, and a goodly number of the expected storage compartments and map pockets here and there  the view outward is superb, as the f-series styling includes a low beltline and big windows all around. Even fairly short drivers should have decent forward visibility. The only vision-related gripe we had was a vertically narrow inside rear-view mirror, which cut down on the view to the rear  all supercabs include a third door on the passenger's side for entry to the back seat. This door is operable once the passenger's door is open, and can be opened from inside or out. Two adults should be reasonably comfortable on longer trips in the back seat. With the rear seat folded forward there's a flat, sturdy steel surface, great for carrying toolboxes or large amounts of luggage. driving impressionpeople familiar with trucks, particularly those familiar with ford trucks, will find the driving experience in the new f-series greatly enhanced. A high degree of directional stability adds to safety and comfort because it keeps the vehicle headed down its intended path  ride, too, is remarkably good. One big problem with pickup trucks has always been how poorly they tend to ride when empty; this can become really annoying on long trips down concrete interstates where trucks can bounce ceaselessly. There's no truck-like roar or rumble, no feeling that it starts thrashing at higher speeds. Whether driving around the city or taking an extended highway cruise, the 5. 4-liter triton engine is the most velvety full-size pickup truck engine we've encountered. The smaller, 4. 6-liter version is equally smooth, but it's less powerful, and we highly recommend the stronger 5. 4-liter v8. But the ford is certainly the sleekest of the bunch  there's a lot to like about it in addition to the look. The interior is extraordinary, the triton v8s are silky and strong, the ride and drive is exceptional and it's full to the brim with worthwhile features.
